Shop the new Jeep Wrangler: Jeep’s Wrangler has captured and supported the American spirit for decades, from its WWII military-vehicle origins to the fourth-generation JL that debuted at the LA Auto Show in November. The Wrangler’s always had distinctive looks and capabilities, and the 2018 version maintains those, but it also improves daily drivability, efficiency, and interior look and feel, as well as offering a new soft-top that’s easier to remove and re-attach than the old one. The standard 3.6-liter V6 that’s been used in past versions and produces 285 horsepower gets an automatic stop/start system and two new transmissions, a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 270 hp and a new eTorque mild hybrid feature to improve fuel economy will be available with the 8-speed automatic later this year. Jeeps says a torque-heavy turbodiesel will be available in the Wrangler, but not until 2019, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain won’t arrive until the 2020 model year.
