Shop the new BMW X3: Fans didn’t originally like the idea of BMW building cars for use on dirt and in the woods, but the company now offers five X crossovers, and that number will soon grow to seven. Hardcore fans might find the latest BMWs a little softer and less communicative than the cars that preceded BMW’s “sport activity vehicles,” but the new X3 can still offer a performance driving experience—and the 2018 X3 will be the first BMW available with a factory-installed trailer hitch. The 2018 X3 offers two engines, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque or a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft. Reviewer Cliff Atiyeh had plenty of fun with the four, and while he observed more body roll than he’d prefer in a performance car, he found the cabin quiet and comfortable. He also appreciated the iDrive system’s speed and logical control layout as well as the 360-degree camera system’s great views and parking assistance.Presenter: Clifford AtiyehCinematographer: Andrew ZubatkinSubscribe to the CarGurus Channel:Check out our Test Drive Reviews playlist:Crossovers & SUVs

The 30 is a 2.0 and the 40 is a 3.0. Makes sense to me.

Surprised by the reviewer's view that the new X3 doesn't handle as old BMWs or the Mercedes equivalents. Other reviews that I've seen say the X3 is one of the best handling cars in its class, good enough to go toe to toe with Porsche Macan.

AWD should be standard in every SUV, I’m happy that bmw is making steps in the right direction, and the HUD is the best in market
