HD 2017 Mazda CX-9 Signature Test Drive Video Review

The Mazda is not meant to be a box on wheels, this is a car with soul and performance. Mazda does not care about trunk size and novelty features like a kick lift gate and panoramic sunroof that only 5-10% of the people that own them ever use, they care about ownership. They want ever turn of the wheel and the entire driving experience to be one that is so unique that you can't find another car to even rival it. This is basically a family «Sports SUV». This car has shocks, dampers, and suspension tuned the same as the only sports cars of Mazda's past. This has the most torque in the segment with 315 lb-ft of torque and is the lightest car is the segment! If you are looking for an SUV that does not make you feel like you are driving your boat out of the lake, then the CX-9 is for those customers and those alone. Mazda is not selling based off of volume, that is why they choose to remain a small company. They want the people that buy their cars to appreciate them to the fullest possible magnitude. As for performance, the Mazda will beat all cars in the segment. It is the lightest and has the most torque. Horsepower is great and all but torque is the factor in how quickly you get to your top speed which is what the horsepower determines. All the competition may have only 15-30 horsepower more but they have no torque.All that horsepower is meaningless without the torque to back it up. Also, the fact that the Mazda is carrying less weight and has the chasis AND suspension components to properly handle the power means that it will feel more engaging when you floor the accelerator. To top everything off, because this is only a 4 cylinder, you have less weight over the nose of the car, and better fuel effieciency. The turbo on this car also gives you ALL of that torque at 1700 RPM. With a V6 you have to wait until at least 4500RPM to get maximum torque or horsepower. The fact of that is that nobody ever pushes a family SUV that hard to get full horsepower or torque. The Mazda evens out performs the 2017 Acura MDX AND Infiniti QX60 AND undercuts both by about 10K fully loaded. The CX-9 also beats EVERYONE in MPG by getting 21 in the city and 26 on the highway. Nobody else in the class has 21 mpg in the city on a fully loaded model.
