This is a Bulgarian shepherd salad. After the Ottomans (turks) invaded Bulgaria and the Balkans. Many of the traditions, folklore and cuisine are adopted from the population that lived there before the invasion, and derived from many attempts for a brutal islamization of the region. Yes it is popular salad in Turkey, but the origins are from Bulgaria.
